Writing a book is a solitary endeavor. I love writing groups, but, in the end, is just you and the blank page on the screen. This month we’re getting to the end of this development phase of our platform. Once we finished the module that allows you to export your book as an eBook in ePub format, we delivered the full set of module a writer needs when he is alone, in front of the screen, writing.
What’s next?
-
There are a lot of improvements we will make to platform: novel ways of structuring your story, new outputs, and collaboration tools. It will never stop getting better.
-
The next phase: Asengana Marketplace. Details about it will come next year. For now, we can tell you that you’ll get to the point when you can do everything in the Asengana ecosystem: from the first idea to writing, marketing, and selling your book,
The publishing industry is not really changing. Just following same patterns with a twist. We want to give you freedom and control over the creative process because this is the only way to move forward.
Updates
1. Export to ePub
This is the big one. There are tools paid or free that can help you create an eBook. The difference is the integration with the rest of the tools you work with. Once you got to the final draft, you can export your book to ePub with one click. You can upload it to any online store that sells eBooks after that.
We’ll add soon a ePub to .Mobi conversion so you can upload it to Amazon.com as well as POD (print-on-demand) formats for the same store.
2. New navigation
As the platform grew from the initial concept we had, the project navigation has become insufficient. New modules and features required something different that will fit the key concept and workflow of approaching the writing of a book as managing a project.
It’s easier to use and has two visible levels giving a clear view on the writing process. We split the entire process in 5 main phases:
-
Planing – includes research notes, character files, locations and so on
-
Manuscript – includes the writing module plus the manuscript management: structure, drafts
-
Kanban Board – for daily planning and Burndown chart
-
Analytics – includes project status, Time Map, etc
-
Export – includes the normal export to pdf and text, but also the new ePub export module.
3. Research module
For research module we used a new interface that allows for editing in the same page with a modal window. You can add, view and modify notes without moving to a new page. It’s a beta feature that we plan to extend to other modules of the platform.
4. Visual and back-end updates.
We improved the process of adding images to Characters, Locations and ePub cover by adding visual clues for status once an image is selected.
For Manuscript, you’ll discover additional references added in the left column. You can add the POV character as well as a location and have them as a reference without leaving the scene or quickly refresh your memory by viewing them.
